About Aidonia's Life and Music
Early Life and Inspiration
Aidonia was born Sheldon Aitana Ricardo Lawrence in Kingston, Jamaica, on April 6, 1981. He is the second of four children. His mother was a teacher, and his father was a former soldier. Aidonia got his stage name from the first two letters of his middle name, 'Aitana'. The name 'Donia' came from playing football.
He went to Mona Heights Primary and then Meadowbrook High. Aidonia decided to become a deejay after watching a video of a music battle. This battle was between Beenie Man and his favorite artist, Bounty Killer, in 1993.
Starting His Music Journey
Aidonia began practicing the music battle for his friends and classmates. He wrote his own song lyrics. He also formed a music group called JAG1 (Jah A Guide) (JOP) with his friends.
After leaving school, he moved to the United States with his father. He worked at FedEx for a while. For the next three years, he often visited Jamaica. He also did some small music performances in New York. People in New York encouraged him to go back to Jamaica to really start his music career.
First Songs and Hits
Aidonia met a musician named Mr. G (who was known as Goofy at the time). In October 2003, he recorded his first song called 'Many a Dem' on Goofy's Young Blood label. Soon after, he started working with Rod Pinnock from Orizen Entertainment. In early 2004, Aidonia began performing at a weekly event called "Battle Thursdays."
Later in 2004, Cordell "Skatta" Burrell asked Aidonia to record at his studio. About two months later, Aidonia had his first big hit song, "Lolly." This song was made on Skatta's Irish Dance riddim. In October 2005, "Lolly" was included on VP Records' yearly music collection, "Strictly The Best (Volume 33)."
J.O.P. Crew and Family Life
Around 2011, Aidonia started helping his J.O.P. (Jag One Productions) group members. These members included Govana, Shokryme, Jayds, Tanso, and Size 10. The group had some popular songs together, like "All 14" and "Run Road."
In 2013, Aidonia and his partner, Kimberly Megan, had a son named King Khalif. Aidonia and Kimberly Megan got married in September 2016. In December 2023, they welcomed another son, Kenzo Lawrence.
On his birthday in April 2020, Aidonia released his "Dats a Trap" mixtape. It featured 17 songs.
