Life and Music Career
Early Life and Inspiration
Aidonia was born Sheldon Aitana Ricardo Lawrence in Kingston, Jamaica. He is the second of four children. His mom was a teacher, and his dad was a former soldier. He got his stage name, Aidonia, from his middle name, Aitana. The 'Donia' part came from playing football.
Aidonia went to Mona Heights Primary School and then Meadowbrook High School. He loved music from a young age. After watching a music battle between Beenie Man and his favorite artist, Bounty Killer, Aidonia decided he wanted to be a deejay (a reggae/dancehall singer/rapper).
He started practicing by acting out music battles for his friends. He also wrote his own lyrics. He formed a music group called JAG1 (Jah A Guide) or JOP with his friends.
Starting His Career
After leaving school, Aidonia moved to the United States with his father. He worked at a company called FedEx. For the next three years, he often visited Jamaica. He also did some small music performances in New York. People in New York encouraged him to go back to Jamaica to really start his music career.
He met another artist named Mr. G (who was known as Goofy at the time). In October 2003, Aidonia recorded his first song, 'Many a Dem', on Goofy's Young Blood label. Soon after, he began working with Rod Pinnock of Orizen Entertainment. In early 2004, he started performing at a weekly event called "Battle Thursdays."
First Big Hits
Later in 2004, Aidonia met Cordell "Skatta" Burrell. Skatta invited him to record music at his studio. About two months later, Aidonia had his first big hit song, "Lolly." This song was made on Skatta's Irish Dance riddim (a reggae/dancehall instrumental track). In October 2005, "Lolly" was added to VP Records' yearly music collection, "Strictly The Best (Volume 33)."
JOP Group and Family Life
In 2011, Aidonia began to promote other members of his J.O.P music group. These members included Govana, Shokryme, Jayds, Tanso, and Size 10. The group had a few popular songs together, such as "All 14" and "Run Road."
In 2013, Aidonia had a son with his fiancé, Kimberly Megan. The couple got married in September 2016. On his birthday, April 6, 2020, Aidonia released his Dats a Trap mixtape. This mixtape featured 17 different songs.
