Early Life and Education

Ailene Fields was born Eileen Rubin in 1948. Her hometown is Brooklyn, New York. She went to Lehman College in New York City. In 1973, she earned a degree in English and Greek mythology.

Ailene taught herself how to make pottery. Later, she studied the human figure. She learned from Bruno Lucchesi in 1980. He was a teacher at The New School for Social Research. Lucchesi suggested she go to SculptureCenter in New York City. There, she learned more about being a sculptor. She became very good at carving stone. She also learned how to sculpt for bronze casting. In 1967, she married Dr. David Fields. They have two sons, Marc and Adam.

Art Exhibitions and Teaching

Ailene Fields had her first art show in 1987. It was at the Lavaggi Gallery in New York City. Since then, her art has been shown a lot. You can find her work in many American art galleries. She has also had special shows at museums. These include the Bergen Museum of Art & Science and The Appleton Museum of Art.

She has taught stone carving at several places. These include Sculpture Center and The Educational Alliance. Today, she teaches at The Compleat Sculptor in New York City. This is one of the biggest places for sculpture supplies. She co-owns it with her son, Marc Fields.

Skylands Museum of Art

Ailene Fields started the Skylands Museum of Art. It is located in Lafayette, New Jersey. She wanted it to be a welcoming place. She said she didn't want it to feel "sterile." The museum opened to visitors on October 21, 2023.

Fantastic Creatures 2020 Project

From late 2019 to summer 2020, Ailene Fields had public art shows. These were done with Six Summit Gallery. They also featured art by sculptor Gina Miccinilli. Ailene showed three large art displays. These were of amazing, lifelike creatures. You could see them in Bella Abzug Park at Hudson Yards. They were also at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Another location was Dag Hammarskjold Plaza.
