Airas Nunes facts for kids
Airas Nunes (born around 1230, died in 1293) was a talented writer from Galicia, a region in what is now Spain. He was a cleric, which means he worked for the church. He was also a famous troubadour, a type of poet and musician from the Middle Ages.
Airas Nunes served a bishop early in his life. Later, between 1284 and 1289, he became a poet in the court of King Sancho IV of Castille. This means he wrote and performed for the king and his royal family.
His songs were written in medieval Galician-Portuguese, a language spoken in Galicia and Portugal long ago.

Airas Nunes was known for his many songs and poems. We know of fourteen of his works today. These include different types of songs:
- Love Songs: Six of his works are Cantigas de Amor, which are songs about love.
- Friend Songs: He wrote three Cantigas de Amigo, which are songs where a woman sings about her love for a man.

Sometimes, Airas Nunes included lines or ideas from other famous writers in his work. These included King Denis of Portugal, King Alfonso X of Castile, João Zorro, and Nuno Fernandes Torneol.
Did He Help Alfonso X?
Many people believe that Airas Nunes might have helped create the famous collection of songs called the Cantigas de Santa Maria. These songs were written for King Alfonso X the Wise and are about miracles performed by the Virgin Mary. If he did help, it shows how important and skilled he was as a writer and musician.
