Aishihik facts for kids
Aishihik (also known as Äshèyi) is a small village located in Yukon, Canada. It sits at the northern end of Äshèyi Män, which is also called Aishihik Lake. This area is the traditional home of the Southern Tutchone people. The Champagne and Aishihik First Nations continue to use Aishihik for important cultural activities.
During World War II, a military airfield was built here. It was part of the Northwest Staging Route, a special path for planes. The airfield was used until 1968. After the military left, most people moved away. Only a few members of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations still live there. Aishihik is about 135 kilometers (84 miles) from the Alaska Highway. You can reach it by the Aishihik Road, but much of this road is no longer kept in good condition.
