Assing "Aki" Aleong is an American actor, singer, and songwriter. He was born in Trinidad and Tobago on December 19, 1934. He has been active in movies, TV shows, and music since 1956.
Early Life and Career
Aki Aleong's father, Henry Leong, was from Hong Kong. His mother, Agnes Vera Gonsalves, was from St. Vincent.
Aki's first big acting role was in the 1957 movie No Down Payment. He is well-known for playing Senator Hidoshi in the TV show Babylon 5. He also played Mr. Chiang in V: The Series. In 1965, he owned a fast food restaurant in Hollywood, California.
Music Career
Aki Aleong also has a music career. In 1958, he helped write and produce a song called Shombalor.
In 1961, his song "Trade Winds, Trade Winds" became popular. It was listed on the Billboard "Bubbling Under the Hot 100" charts. The song was very popular in Los Angeles at the time.
Acting Roles
Aki Aleong has appeared in many TV shows. He was on Hazel as Mike Shiga. In 1968, he played Ah Sing in The Virginian. He also appeared in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2001.
More recently, he starred as "Agent X" in the YouTube short film Agents of Secret Stuff. This film was made by Wong Fu Productions and also starred Ryan Higa.
Media Involvement
Aki Aleong cares about how Asian Americans are shown in media. He is a member of the Media Action Network for Asian Americans (MANAA). He is also the executive director for Asians in Media. These groups work to improve the way Asian Americans are seen in movies and TV.
