Akissa Bahri's Journey
Akissa Bahri went to school in Tunis, Tunisia. She studied engineering in Toulouse, France. She earned a special doctorate degree there. Later, she got another Ph.D. from Lund University in Sweden. Her research was about how using certain types of water and waste could affect the environment in Tunisia.
Dr. Bahri's main work focuses on making sure water is clean. She also works on using water wisely. This is very important, especially in places like Tunisia. She wrote a book about how to use wastewater as a helpful resource.
She also studied how to improve farming methods. She found ways to help farmers. Her ideas helped them check the health of their soil.
Before becoming a minister, Dr. Bahri held many important jobs. She was a director at the International Water Management Institute. She also worked at the African Development Bank. There, she helped manage a program called the African Water Facility. She was also a research director in Tunisia.
In September 2020, Akissa Bahri became the Minister of Agriculture for Tunisia. She also serves on the board of the JRS Biodiversity Foundation. She is a member of the African Academy of Sciences.
