Al Cleveland was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States. His parents were Alfred W. and Dorothy Cleveland. He had two sisters, Edna Grate and Mamie Jett. He also had one brother, Robert Cleveland. Al Cleveland's sons, Alfred D. Cleveland and Theodore Mills, are still living.
A Career in Music
Al Cleveland had a long and successful career writing songs. He first wrote songs for artists in New York. These artists were on labels like Scepter and Wand. Some of the singers he wrote for included Dionne Warwick and Tommy Hunt. He also wrote for Gene Pitney.
Later, Al Cleveland moved to the Motown music company. At Motown, he wrote songs for many famous groups. These included Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, the Marvelettes, David Ruffin, the Four Tops, and Chuck Jackson.
His Biggest Hits
