Aladdin is a very small community, known as a hamlet, located in eastern Crook County, Wyoming, in the United States. It covers about 30 acres. You can find it where Wyoming routes 24 and 111 meet. It's about 20 miles northeast of Sundance, which is the main town for the county.

Even though Aladdin is not officially a city or town (it's "unincorporated"), it has its own post office. This post office is located inside the town's old general store. The general store first opened in 1896. It used to be a place where coal miners could buy supplies. These miners worked at the Aladdin Coal Tipple nearby, where coal was mined until 1942.

History of Aladdin

In July 2014, the family who owned Aladdin decided to sell the entire community. The asking price was $1.5 million. This price included the old two-story general store, a bar, the family's four-bedroom home, and the town's trailer park (but not the trailers themselves).

Selling the Town

When the town didn't sell for the original price, the owner, Rick Brangle, decided to sell it at an auction. An auction was held on June 2, 2017, but the sale didn't go through. Finally, in June 2019, the town was sold to Trent Tope. He is a local rancher who grew up in Aladdin. Since buying it, he has added more bathrooms and a larger bar.

Life in Aladdin

Public education for the small community of Aladdin is provided by Crook County School District #1. According to local stories and a sign at the General Store, only about 15 people live in Aladdin today. This is much fewer than its peak population of 200 people during the coal mining days.

Aladdin's Climate

Aladdin has a semi-arid climate. This means it's usually dry, but not a desert. It gets some rain, but not a lot. This climate type is identified by the Köppen Climate Classification system.

Aladdin in Popular Culture

Aladdin has even been featured in a movie! The 1986 science-fiction and fantasy family film Hyper Sapien: People from Another Star takes place in Aladdin.
