Alain Berbérian (born July 2, 1953 – died August 22, 2017) was a French movie director and writer. His family came from Armenia.
About Alain Berbérian
Alain Berbérian was born in Beirut, Lebanon. His father was Armenian, and his mother was Greek. He spent his younger years in Lebanon. Later, he moved to France to finish his studies. Alain was also the brother of a famous cartoonist named Charles Berberian.
Alain started his career working in TV and film. He was an editor at a big French TV channel called Canal+.
His first big movie was a comedy called La Cité de la peur (The City of Fear). It was very popular in France. The story was written by a comedy group called Les Nuls. The film is about a series of strange murders happening in Cannes.
In 1998, Berbérian directed Paparazzi. This movie starred Vincent Lindon and Patrick Timsit. It tells the story of a night watchman who gets fired. He was caught in a photo at a soccer game when he should have been at work. Then, he meets a man who teaches him how to be a paparazzo, someone who takes photos of famous people.
In 2000, Alain Berbérian made a thriller called Six-Pack. It featured Richard Anconina as a detective. He chases a dangerous criminal across Paris.
Two years later, in 2002, he returned with the comedy Le Boulet (Dead Weight). This film starred Gérard Lanvin and Benoît Poelvoorde. In the movie, a prison guard and a convict have to work together. They need to find a winning lottery ticket that belongs to the convict.
In 2004, Berbérian directed The Corsican File. This comedy brought together actors Christian Clavier and Jean Reno. The movie is based on a comic book. It's about a detective who goes to Corsica to find a man. This man is owed money from an inheritance. In 2007, he directed L'Île aux trésors (Treasured Island). This movie reunited Gérard Jugnot and Jean-Paul Rouve.
