Alan Longmuir (born June 20, 1948 – died July 2, 2018) was a Scottish musician. He was one of the first members of the famous 1970s pop group, the Bay City Rollers. Alan played the bass guitar in the band. His younger brother, Derek Longmuir, was the drummer.

Alan Longmuir's Early Life and Music Career
Becoming a Musician
Alan Longmuir was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He came from a family who loved music. When he was 17, he started his first band. He formed it with his brother Derek and two friends.
This band later changed its name and members. It became the well-known group, the Bay City Rollers. Before the band became famous, Alan worked as a plumber.
The Bay City Rollers' Rise to Fame
The Bay City Rollers became very popular in the 1970s. They were known for their catchy pop songs. Alan played an important part in the band's early success.
In 1976, when the band was at its most popular, Alan Longmuir left. He was replaced by another musician, Ian Mitchell.
Alan's Solo Music and Return
In 1977, Alan Longmuir released his own song. It was called "I'm Confessing." This song reached number 44 on the music charts in Australia.
Alan returned to the Bay City Rollers in 1978. After coming back, he played different instruments. He switched between the bass guitar, rhythm guitar, and keyboards. He also played the piano accordion.

Alan Longmuir was married twice. He had one son named Jordan. His second marriage was to Eileen Rankin Longmuir. Alan was a loving stepfather to her two sons.
Later in his life, Alan owned a hotel. It was called the Castle Campbell Hotel. After facing some health challenges, he decided to change careers. In 2000, he started training to become a building inspector.
His Passing
Alan Longmuir passed away on July 2, 2018. He was 70 years old. He died in Larbert, Scotland. He had become ill while on a trip to Mexico.
