About Alanas Chošnau
Early Life and Family
Alanas Chošnau was born in Vilnius, Lithuania. His mother was Lithuanian, and his father was from Kurdistan in Iraq. Alanas lived in Baghdad, Iraq, with his parents and sister Greta.
Sadly, his mother passed away in 1983 when Alanas was 8 years old. He then moved back to Lithuania to live with his grandparents. His older sister stayed in Baghdad with their father. Because of this, Alanas grew up speaking Arabic and learned Lithuanian later. A long war in the region also kept Alanas separated from his father and sister for many years.
Starting His Music Career
Even after these difficult times, Alanas found his passion in music. In 1992, he started a pop music group called Naktinės Personos with his friend Aras Vėberis. Alanas was the lead singer for over 10 years.
The band became very popular. They released 10 albums and 2 singles. They won many awards, including 'Band of the Year' and 'Album of the Year'. Naktinės Personos even attracted huge crowds, with up to 30,000 fans at their concerts in 1998.
In 1997, Alanas and Aras were in a car accident. Alanas was seriously injured and had trouble moving his legs for a while. Luckily, after a lot of treatment, he fully recovered and returned to music. The band stopped performing together in 2001.
Solo Success
After Naktinės Personos, Alanas Chošnau started his solo career in 2001. He continued to release new music and perform live. He released 7 solo albums by 2009.
In 2003, his first solo album, Pusiau atmerktos akys (meaning Half-Open Eyes), was a huge hit. It sold over 10,000 copies in just three months and was given a 'Golden Disc' award. Later that same year, his album Mintimis su tavimi (meaning With You in My Mind) also became 'Golden'. In 2003, he was named 'Male Singer of the Year' at the national "Bravo Awards".
TV Shows and Acting
Alanas has also appeared on television. In 2004, he took part in a reality show called Džiunglės (meaning Jungles). This was a survival competition in the jungles of Malaysia on TV3.
He also joined other TV projects. In 2007, he was on Šok su žvaigžde! (the Lithuanian version of Dancing with the Stars). In 2008, he sang in Žvaigždžių duetai (a singing competition for celebrity duos) on LNK. One of his songs, Kur gimsta lašai, became the theme song for the Džiunglės show.
