Alanreed is a small place in Gray County, Texas, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government. It's also a census-designated place (CDP), which is an area the government counts for population statistics. In 2020, only 23 people lived there.
What is Alanreed Like?
Alanreed got its name from two business partners, Mr. Alan and Mr. Reed. They were part of a company that helped plan the town in 1900 for a railroad called the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Texas Railroad. Before that, the area had a funny nickname: Gouge Eye! This name came from a famous fight that happened in a saloon there.
You can get to Alanreed by driving on Interstate 40 or FM 291. A road called Loop 271 goes through the community. This road used to be part of the famous historic highway, U.S. Route 66.
Students in Alanreed go to schools in the McLean Independent School District. There used to be a local school district just for Alanreed, but it doesn't exist anymore.
