Alaric Tay Liang Hoong (born on June 26, 1979) is an actor, comedian, host, director, and producer from Singapore. He is known for his funny roles and for creating interesting films and TV shows.

Alaric Tay's Early Life
Alaric Tay was born in Singapore. He loved entertainment and decided to make it his career. He studied film at Griffith University in Australia.
Alaric started acting when he was 17 years old. His first role was in a Singaporean movie called That's the Way I Like It. This movie was later shown in North America by Miramax in 1998.
Acting Roles and TV Shows
Alaric Tay has played many different characters over the years. He had main roles in TV movies like Ang Tao Mui and Adventures of Holden Heng. He also played a funny part in the show Money.
He was a main actor in the sitcom The Yang Sisters (seasons 1 and 2) on Mediacorp's Channel 5. He also appeared in Random Acts on Arts Central. His funny movements were a hit in shows like Whizzes of the Void Deck.
Alaric is very famous for playing Andre Chichak, a funny reporter with a nasal voice, in the TV comedy The Noose on MediaCorp Channel 5. In 2013, he played Kang in the HBO Asia series Serangoon Road. The next year, he was James in C.L.I.F. 3, a series about the Singapore Police Force.
Alaric Tay's Filmmaking Work
Besides acting, Alaric Tay is also an award-winning filmmaker. His film When We Were Bengs won three awards at the 2007 ReelHeART International Film Festival. It won for Best Experimental Film, Best Sound, and Best Editing. His short documentary Journey of Change was also praised by audiences in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and the U.S.
Directing and Producing TV Series
In 2016, Alaric's company, Very Tay, worked with HBO Asia to create their first comedy series called Sent. Alaric was the Showrunner and director for this 8-part show.
In 2017, Alaric helped direct FAM!, a 13-part comedy series for Mediacorp MeWatch. The show was about a shy girl growing up in a family famous on social media. It was nominated for an International Emmy for Best Comedy Series.
Movies and Future Projects
In 2018, Alaric co-produced the movie Zombiepura with director Jacen Tan and actor Benjamin Heng. Their company, JAB Films, got its name from their first names (Jacen, Alaric, Benjamin). This was Alaric's first main role in a horror movie. Zombiepura was shown in cinemas across Asia starting in October 2018. It is known as Singapore's first widely released zombie movie.
In 2019, Alaric worked on two more series for Mediacorp: I Am Madam and Cheerific. He was a co-director for I Am Madam and the showrunner for Cheerific.
During the Covid pandemic, Alaric teamed up with Pedring Lopez from Black Ops Studios Asia. They plan to make action and horror films together. Several projects are being developed, with the first one set to start production in early 2025.
Other Interests and Activities
Alaric Tay was a student of the late actor John Spencer. He was also part of the Singapore Armed Forces Music and Drama Company (SAF MDC). He is still active in the entertainment world.
