Alba Reche was born in Elche on December 17, 1997. Her parents are Miguel Ángel Martínez and Rafaela Reche García. She also has a younger sister named Marina, who is also a singer. From a young age, Alba loved music, dancing, and all kinds of art.
She joined a dance academy and studied Fine Arts at the Technical University of Valencia. While studying, Alba also worked as a waitress at a music pub in Valencia. She often performed there during late-night sessions. In 2018, Alba left college when she was chosen to be a contestant on Operación Triunfo.
Music Journey
Starting with Operación Triunfo
Alba's sister encouraged her to audition for Operación Triunfo. Alba was selected and joined the show in September 2018. During the competition, she became a fan favorite. This happened after she sang "La Llorona", a traditional Mexican folk song. People praised her performance for its power and amazing singing.
Her performance of Sara Bareilles' "She Used to Be Mine" also received high praise. Even Sara Bareilles herself complimented Alba. Alba also sang "Je Veux" by French singer Zaz. Zaz later invited Alba to perform with her at the show's final gala. They also performed together at a sold-out concert in Madrid. In December, Alba finished second in the show. She received 35% of the public's votes.
After Operación Triunfo, Alba's album of her performances from the show topped the Spanish music charts in January 2019. In 2019, Alba went on a concert tour with her fifteen fellow contestants. The tour, called OT 2018 en concierto, had 13 shows. It started in February and ended in August. More than 120,000 fans attended the concerts.
Releasing Quimera and Touring
After the TV show, Alba Reche signed a music deal with Universal Music. On October 4, 2019, she released "Medusa". This was the first song from her new album. The song became a top 70 hit in Spain. It showed her new music style, which was more synth-pop and Latin R&B. Two weeks later, "Caronte" was released as the second song. It reached number 68 on the music charts.
On October 25, 2019, her first album, Quimera, was released. The album's songs are inspired by stories from Greek mythology. The album cover art looks like Eros and Psyche. Quimera reached number three on the Spanish albums chart. In April 2020, a live acoustic EP called Sobre Quimera was released. It was recorded at the Reina Sofía Museum.
The tour for her album, the Quimera Tour, started in December 2019. It began with two sold-out shows in Elche. However, the tour had to pause on March 11, 2020, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many concerts were canceled or moved to later dates. Instead, Alba did a summer concert tour that followed safety rules. During this time, she worked with other artists on a charity song called "Escriurem (Jo Em Corono)". The money from this song went to a medical research foundation. She also took part in the "People in Red" gala in Barcelona. This event raised a lot of money for research projects.
Personal Life and Activism
Alba Reche lives in an apartment in Madrid for her music career. She is a strong supporter of fairness and equality for all people. She has spoken out about important social issues. For example, she attended a protest in Madrid for racial equality and against police brutality. She joined her friend and singer Natalia Lacunza at this event.
