The Albergue Olímpico Germán Rieckehoff, also known as the Olympic Hostel or El Albergue, is a special place in Salinas, Puerto Rico. It's a big center where athletes train and people can have fun. It was started in 1985 by Germán Rieckehoff, who used to lead the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee.

This center is one of the best sports places in Puerto Rico. Professional athletes use it to get ready for competitions. But it's also open to everyone for healthy activities, learning, and recreation. The Albergue Olímpico even hosted the Shooting competitions for the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games.

What You Can Find at the Albergue Olímpico

The Albergue Olímpico covers a huge area, about 1,500 acres (which is about 6 square kilometers). It has 17 different sports areas! You can find courts for many sports, places for baseball, swimming pools, and tennis courts. There are also gyms and various sports halls.

Training and Learning

Athletes from different sports groups in Puerto Rico train here. These groups are part of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee. Even individual professional athletes and international sports teams use the facilities. The Albergue also has two meeting rooms and a Sports Library named after Rafael Pont Flores.

A very special part of the Albergue Olímpico is its school. It's called the Escuela de la Comunidad Especializada en Deportes en el Albergue Olímpico. This is the only public school in Puerto Rico where students live and focus on sports.

Fun for Everyone

Besides serious training, the Albergue offers lots of fun activities. It has exciting water parks where you can cool off. There's also an aviary, which is a large cage for birds, and a beautiful botanical garden to explore. Kids can enjoy the playgrounds.

The Olympic Museum

The Albergue Olímpico is also home to the Olympic Museum of Puerto Rico. This museum tells the story of sports in Puerto Rico. It's also the final resting place for the founder, Germán Rieckehoff, his wife Irma, and their son, Juan, who was a talented equestrian athlete.
