Albergue Olímpico facts for kids
The Albergue Olímpico Germán Rieckehoff is a super cool sports center in Salinas, Puerto Rico. People often call it El Albergue for short. It was started in 1985 by Germán Rieckehoff. He used to be the president of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee. This center is the most complete sports place in Puerto Rico. Both professional athletes and regular people use it. They come for training, health, learning, and fun activities. The Albergue Olímpico also hosted the shooting games for the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games.

What's Inside the Albergue Olímpico?
The Albergue Olímpico is huge! It covers about 1,500 acres (6.1 km2) of land. Inside, you'll find 17 different sports areas. These include courts for many sports, baseball fields, and amazing tennis courts. There are also swimming pools and gymnasiums.
Sports Training Areas
The center has different sports halls. It also has two conference rooms. There is even a Sports Library named after Rafael Pont Flores. Sports teams and individual athletes use these places for training. Many sports groups from the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee train here. Other national and international sports groups also visit.
A Special School
The Albergue Olímpico is home to a unique school. It's called the Escuela de la Comunidad Especializada en Deportes en el Albergue Olímpico. This means "Sports-Specialized Community School in the Olympic Hostel." It's the only public school in Puerto Rico focused on sports. Students can live and train right at the center.
Fun and Learning for Everyone
Besides sports, the Albergue has lots of fun stuff. There are exciting water parks to cool off in. You can visit an aviary to see many birds. There's also a beautiful botanical garden. Kids can play at the playgrounds.
The Olympic Museum
The Albergue Olímpico also has the Olympic Museum of Puerto Rico. This museum tells the story of sports in Puerto Rico. It honors the founder of the Albergue, Germán Rieckehoff. It also remembers his wife, Irma, and their son, Juan. Juan was a talented equestrian athlete.
