Albert is a small, unincorporated community in Caddo County, Oklahoma, United States. An unincorporated community is a place where people live, but it does not have its own local government. Albert is located about six miles southwest of Binger on State Highway 146.
A Look at Albert's History
The post office in Albert was started on September 1, 1910. The community is believed to be named after Albert Baker. He was a friend of Martin F. Hennessey, who founded the town.
How Albert Got Its Name
The town was originally known as Oney. It was named after Richard Oney. However, there was already another town with the name Oney. So, the name was changed to Albert.
Martin F. Hennessey was a very important person in Albert. He was the postmaster general, which means he was in charge of the post office. He also owned the general store, a hotel, and three cotton gins. Cotton gins are machines that separate cotton fibers from their seeds.
The Post Office Today
In 2011, the US Postal Service considered closing the post office in Albert. However, it was still open as of 2017.
