Becoming a Leader
Albert Denison Conyngham was born in 1805. He was the third son of Henry Conyngham, who was a Marquess, and Elizabeth Denison. He went to Eton College, a famous school. In 1821, he joined the army as a young officer in the Royal Horse Guards. After that, he started working as a diplomat, which means he represented Britain in other countries.
He worked in different embassies, like in Berlin in 1824 and Vienna in 1825. He also helped lead diplomatic missions in Florence and Berlin.
In 1829, he was made a knight. Then, in 1835, he was elected to Parliament as a Whig Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Canterbury. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the government. In 1849, he changed his last name to Denison. This was because of his uncle's will. A year later, he was given the special title of Baron Londesborough. In 1851, he bought a large estate called Grimston Park and a famous painting called The Monarch of the Glen.
