Alberto Górriz Echarte, born on February 16, 1958, is a former Spanish professional footballer. He was a strong central defender, known for his excellent heading skills. He often scored goals using his head from special plays called set pieces.
Alberto Górriz played his entire career for one team, Real Sociedad. He played in almost 600 official games for them and helped them win four big titles. He also played for the Spanish national team in the 1990 World Cup.

Playing for Real Sociedad
Alberto Górriz was born in Irun, a town in the Basque Country region of Spain. He started playing football in the youth teams of Real Sociedad, a famous club from that region.
First Team Debut
Górriz made his first appearance for Real Sociedad's main team on April 8, 1979. This was in an away game against Rayo Vallecano, which Real Sociedad won 4–0.
Becoming a Key Player
From his third season onwards, starting in the 1980–81 season, Górriz became a very important player in defense. That season, Real Sociedad won the La Liga title, which is the top football league in Spain. He played in at least 31 games every season until the 1991–92 season. He often played alongside Agustín Gajate, another defender who also spent his whole career at one club.
Retirement and Club Record
Alberto Górriz stopped playing professional football in June 1993. He played in 461 matches in La Liga, the top Spanish league. Overall, he played 599 official games for Real Sociedad, which is a club record! His last year playing was also the final year for Real Sociedad's old stadium, Atotxa Stadium.
Playing for Spain
Alberto Górriz also played for the Spanish national team. He earned 12 caps, which means he played in 12 international matches, over about a year and a half.
International Debut
He made his first appearance for Spain on November 16, 1988, when he was 30 years old. This was a qualifying match for the 1990 FIFA World Cup against the Republic of Ireland. Spain won the game 2–0 in Seville.
World Cup Goal
Górriz was chosen to play in the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. He scored his only goal for Spain in a group stage match against Belgium. Spain won that game 2–1. He scored with a header from a free kick taken by Míchel, a player from Real Madrid.
