A Look Back in Time
Building the Albion Hotel
The Albion Hotel was built in 1860. It stands on the corner of Darling and Ann Streets in Balmain. It was built to serve the many workers from the nearby Mort Bay area.
Changes Over the Years
By 1876, the building stopped being a pub. It became a grocery store instead. This might have happened because other bigger pubs, like the Pacific Hotel and the London Hotel, were nearby.
The pub's license was then moved to the Unity Hall Hotel. This hotel was on the corner of Nicholson and Darling Streets East Balmain. The Unity Hall Hotel building is now called Oddfellows Hall. The Albion Hotel's license finally ended in 1910.
In the year 2000, the building became an Italian restaurant and café. It is currently known as Ciao Thyme.
