Albrecht Wellmer (born July 9, 1933 – died September 13, 2018) was an important German philosopher. He taught at the Freie Universität Berlin. A philosopher is someone who studies big questions about life, knowledge, values, and how we should live.

Albrecht Wellmer was born in Germany in 1933. He first studied math and physics in cities like Berlin and Kiel. Later, he became interested in deeper questions. He then studied philosophy and sociology in Heidelberg and Frankfurt.
From 1966 to 1970, he worked as an assistant for a famous philosopher named Jürgen Habermas. This was at the University of Frankfurt.
Wellmer became a professor at several universities. He taught at the Universität Konstanz from 1974 to 1990. He also taught at the New School for Social Research in New York. From 1990 until he retired in 2001, he was a professor at the Freie Universität Berlin. He also taught as a visiting professor in places like Haverford, Stony Brook, and Amsterdam.
