Starting in Politics
In 1945, the National Assembly of Panama chose him as the "third presidential designate." This meant he was next in line to become president if something happened to the current president and vice presidents.
Later, from 1949 to 1951, he worked as the First Vice President of Panama. He was part of the government, also called the cabinet, of President Arnulfo Arias.
Serving as President
Alcibíades Arosemena became the President of Panama on May 9, 1951. He served in this important role until October 1, 1952. As president, he was the main leader of the country.
He was a member of a political group called the Authentic Revolutionary Party (PRA). Political parties are groups of people who share similar ideas about how the country should be run.
