Aldo Brovarone was a famous Italian car designer. He was born on June 24, 1926, and passed away on October 12, 2020. He worked for a well-known company called Carrozzeria Pininfarina. There, he helped create many cool cars. Some of his most famous designs include the Dino 206 GT, the Lancia Gamma Coupé, and the Peugeot 504 sedan. He was the main designer at Pininfarina from 1974 to 1988.

Early Life and Beginnings

Aldo Brovarone was born in Vigliano Biellese, Italy, on June 24, 1926. From a young age, he showed a lot of artistic talent. He loved airplanes and even dreamed of becoming a pilot! He studied at a technical school, thinking he might work in the textile industry.

His studies were stopped by World War II. During the war, he was held in a camp for a year. After surviving this difficult time, he found work as a designer for a company that made refrigerators.

His Amazing Career

In 1949, Brovarone moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina. He started as a graphic designer at an advertising company. Later, he worked for a car company called AUTOAR until it closed in 1953.

Brovarone then returned to Italy. He began working with Piero Dusio at a car company called Cisitalia. This is where he first started drawing cars for brochures. This was the real start of his career as a car designer!

Joining Pininfarina

Thanks to Piero Dusio, Brovarone met Battista "Pinin" Farina. In 1952, he joined Battista's company, Carrozzeria Pinin Farina. At first, he was an assistant designer. But soon, he became a lead designer. His first big design was the Ferrari Superamerica II. This car was shown to the world at the 1960 Turin Auto Show.

At Pininfarina, Brovarone designed the sedan version of the Peugeot 504. He later confirmed that he did not design the sportier coupe and convertible versions. Those were designed at Pininfarina, but with ideas from Peugeot.

Just before he retired, Brovarone also helped design the famous 1987 Ferrari F40. He worked with the main designer, Pietro Camardella, on this incredible car.

Later Years and Legacy

Aldo Brovarone retired from Pininfarina in 1988. But he didn't stop designing! He worked as a consultant for another car design company called Stola. He even helped design the Ruf RK Spyder. This car was named "the most beautiful car in the world" in 2005!

He continued to live in Turin, Italy. Even without a computer or cellphone, he kept making beautiful pencil sketches and paintings. These were even printed as collectible postcards!

Aldo Brovarone passed away on October 12, 2020, at the age of 94. He died just a few days after his wife, Martarita. He was a member of a historical car club and even judged car shows.

In 2019, a book was written about his life and work. It was called Stile & raffinatezza. Le creazioni di Aldo Brovarone (which means "Style & Refinement. The Creations of Aldo Brovarone").
