Aldover is a small town in Catalonia, Spain. It is part of the Baix Ebre region, which is in the Province of Tarragona. Aldover is known for its quiet charm and its connection to an old railway line.
About Aldover
Aldover is a municipality (a type of town or local area) in Spain. It is located in the northeastern part of Spain, in a region called Catalonia. The town is part of the Baix Ebre comarca, which is like a county or district. In 2018, about 838 people lived in Aldover.
The Old Railway Line
For many years, a railway line passed through Aldover. This line was part of the RENFE network, Spain's national railway company. It connected the city of Tortosa with Alcañiz and Zaragoza. The railway was very important for people and goods traveling between these places.
Why the Railway Closed
The railway line through Aldover stopped working in 1973. This happened because the Spanish government decided to focus on bigger, more profitable railway lines. They were advised to stop investing in smaller lines that connected rural areas. After the line closed, the train tracks were removed. Today, the old Aldover train station buildings are empty and abandoned. They stand as a reminder of the town's railway past.
