Alejandro Rossi (born September 22, 1932 – died June 5, 2009) was a famous writer. He was born in Florence, Italy. His mother was from Venezuela, and his father was Italian. Rossi became an Italian-Venezuelan writer.

He wrote many philosophical essays and short stories. Some of his well-known books include Lenguaje y significado (Language and Meaning), Manual del Distraído (Manual of the Absent-minded), and La fábula de Las Regiones (The Fable of The Regions). His writing style was rich and creative. In 1999, Rossi won the National Literary and Linguistics Prize, a very important award.

Working with Others

Alejandro Rossi helped start and lead the magazine Crítica (meaning "Criticism"). He was also part of the editing team for Plural magazine. For a short time, he was even the director of Vuelta magazine.

In 1983, Rossi was invited to visit University of Oxford in Great Britain. He also worked with other writers on books. For example, he edited a book called Filosofía de la Filosofía (The Philosophy of Philosophy) by José Gaos. He also contributed to books like Philosophie und Rechtstheorie in Mexiko and Philosophical Analysis in Latin America. Rossi also honored José Ortega and Gasset, a thinker who influenced him, in a book he helped write.

Working at Newspapers

Rossi wrote cultural articles for the newspaper Excélsior. This newspaper was led by the famous poet Octavio Paz. In 1976, the newspaper faced problems because of its views. Rossi then joined Paz and others to start a new literary magazine called Vuelta.

Rossi was the temporary director of Vuelta for a few months. After that, he stayed on the editing board until the magazine stopped publishing. Vuelta received the Prince of Asturias Award in 1993. This is a very important award for communication and humanities.
