Aleksandër Gabriel Meksi (born March 8, 1939) is an Albanian archaeologist and politician. He was the 28th Prime Minister of Albania from April 13, 1992, to March 11, 1997. Before becoming a politician, he worked as an archaeologist. He was the first Prime Minister of Albania after the country stopped being a communist state.
Meksi was a member of the Democratic Party of Albania. He became Prime Minister at the same time as President Sali Berisha, who was also from the same party. Before entering politics, Meksi studied and helped restore old buildings, especially churches and mosques from the Middle Ages.
Meksi resigned as Prime Minister in 1997. This happened when Albania faced big financial problems, which led to civil unrest. Even though he resigned, his government was one of the longest-serving democratic governments in Albania's history. In 2009, Meksi became a leader of a group called the Pole of Freedom. This group was a mix of different political parties and groups. Many people saw it as a good choice for the elections that year.
