The Aleksandar Nikolić Hall is a well-known indoor sports arena in Belgrade, Serbia. It is located in an area called Palilula. This hall can hold up to 8,000 people for different events.
Before 2016, it was known as Pionir Hall. The name was changed to honor Aleksandar Nikolić, a famous Serbian basketball player and coach. The hall is especially famous for its exciting basketball games. Many matches between top clubs like Partizan and Crvena zvezda (Red Star Belgrade) happen here.
The building was designed by architects Ljiljana and Dragoljub Bakić. Many people see it as an important example of modern architecture in Belgrade.

History of the Hall
Building the Hall
The Aleksandar Nikolić Hall was built in 1973. Architects Ljiljana and Dragoljub Bakić designed it very quickly. Their design was so good that they won a special award called the "Grand Prix of the Belgrade Architecture Salon." The building is known for its repeating shapes and how it uses natural light.
Big Sports Events
Over the years, the hall has hosted many important sports events.
- In 1975, it hosted the final games of EuroBasket 1975, a big European basketball tournament.
- It also held the final match of the EuroLeague in the 1976–77 season. In that game, Maccabi Tel Aviv won against Pallacanestro Varese.
- The Saporta Cup final in 1997–98 was also played here.
- In 1989, the 16th World Judo Championships took place in the hall.
- The arena hosted some early games for EuroBasket 2005.
- It was also used for the 2013 World Women's Handball Championship.
- In 2017, Serbia played Spain in a Davis Cup tennis match here. Serbia won and moved on to the semifinals.
Renaming the Hall
On February 23, 2016, the hall's name officially changed. It went from Pionir Hall to Aleksandar Nikolić Hall. This was done to honor Aleksandar Nikolić, who was a very important person in Serbian basketball. He was a great player and coach.
Modern Upgrades
In 2019, the hall got a big makeover. This renovation cost about €2 million euros. Many things were improved to make it more modern and comfortable.
- New seats were installed for fans.
- The stands can now move, making the space more flexible.
- A new wooden basketball court was put in.
- New screens and better lighting were added.
- The heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems were updated.
- The total number of seats also increased.

Besides sports, Aleksandar Nikolić Hall has also been a popular place for concerts. Many famous musicians from Serbia and around the world have performed here. It's a versatile venue that can host various types of events.
