Aleksandr Timofeyevich Aksinin (Russian: Александр Тимофеевич Аксинин, born November 4, 1954 – died July 28, 2020) was a talented athlete from the Soviet Union. He was a very fast runner, known as a sprinter, and competed in track and field events. Aleksandr Aksinin won two Olympic medals during his career.

A Champion Sprinter

Aleksandr Aksinin was best known for his amazing speed in relay events. In a relay race, a team of runners passes a baton to each other over a set distance. Aksinin was a key part of the Soviet Union's relay teams.

Olympic Glory

Aleksandr Aksinin competed in two different Summer Olympic Games.

  • At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada, he earned a bronze medal. This was a great achievement for a young athlete.
  • Four years later, at the 1980 Summer Olympics held in Moscow, Soviet Union, Aksinin reached the top. He won a gold medal as part of the 4 × 100 meter relay team. This is one of the highest honors an athlete can achieve!

Aleksandr Aksinin was born in a city called Leningrad (which is now known as Saint Petersburg) on November 4, 1954. He trained hard to become a top athlete. Aksinin passed away on July 28, 2020, at the age of 65.
