Aleksandr Shirvindt was born in Moscow. His father was a violinist and music teacher. His mother worked for the Moscow Philharmonic Society.

In 1956, Shirvindt finished his studies at the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute. This was a big step for his acting career. In the same year, he started acting in movies. His first film was She Loves You! (1956).
Shirvindt acted in more than 40 films. He became well-known for his roles in many popular movies. He also used his voice for cartoon characters. For example, he voiced Aramis in the film Dog in Boots.
