Alexander Briley (born April 12, 1947) is an American singer. He was the original "G.I." character in the famous disco group Village People.
Early Life and Education
Alex Briley was born in Harlem, New York City. This was in 1947. His father was a Christian minister.
Alex grew up in Harlem. Later, he lived in Mount Vernon, New York. He started singing in church when he was very young. He also studied voice at the University of Hartford. Alex had two brothers, named Timothy and Jonathan.
Music Career
Alex Briley met producer Jacques Morali. Another member of Village People, Victor Willis, introduced them.
At first, Alex performed in regular clothes. He wore jeans and a T-shirt. But then, he took on the role of a soldier. This was for the album Cruisin' in 1978. In 1979, the group recorded In the Navy. For this song, Alex appeared as a sailor.
Personal Life
Alex Briley had a younger brother named Jonathan. Jonathan worked as an audio engineer. He passed away during the September 11 attacks in 2001.
