Alex Bueno (born Alejandro Wigberto Bueno López on September 6, 1963 – died June 18, 2026) was a famous singer and guitarist from the Dominican Republic. People knew him by his stage name, Alex Bueno, and also by his loving nicknames, "El Mayimbito" (which means "The Little Master") and "El Ruiseñor de la Sierra" (meaning "The Nightingale of the Mountains"). He was especially known for his amazing merengue and bachata songs. He also sang salsa, bolero, and beautiful ballad songs.

Early Life and Musical Family

Alex Bueno was born in San José de las Matas, a town in the Dominican Republic. His parents were Santiago Bueno and Francisca López. Music was a big part of his family life. His mother and grandmother loved to sing and play guitar. His father also played the guitar and violin. Even his brother, Felipe Bueno, was a singer! Alex loved music from a young age. He would sing at family gatherings, at school events, and in his church. He married Sarah Arias in 2013, and she was a great support to him throughout his life. His strong Christian faith was also very important to him.

Rising to Stardom

Alex Bueno dreamed of making music his life. He moved to Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, to start his music career. In 1978, he won a local talent contest and joined a group called Gerardo Vera’s All-Stars. Everyone noticed his clear and beautiful singing voice right away!

In 1982, Alex helped create his own band, Orquesta Liberación, with a talented saxophonist named Andrés de Jesus. Alex was the lead singer, and their music quickly became very popular on the radio. They released four successful albums together.

By 1984, Alex decided to sing on his own. This allowed him to try out different kinds of music, like romantic ballads and salsa, showing everyone that his voice could do more than just merengue. The early 1990s were a huge time for Alex. He released many famous songs like "Jardín Prohibido" and "Querida". These songs made him one of the top singers in Latin America.

A Legacy in Music

In 1998, Alex tried something new: bachata music. He released a very important album called "Bachata a su Tiempo". At that time, bachata was becoming more popular, and Alex's smooth voice helped make it even more loved. He had many big bachata hits in the 2000s, like "Busca un Confidente" and "Que Vuelva". His amazing songs helped bachata music become famous all over the world!

Alex worked with many other famous artists from the Dominican Republic, such as Antony Santos, Romeo Santos, Fernando Villalona, and Juan Luis Guerra. Because of his wonderful contributions to music, Alex received many awards. He performed at big events like the Coca-Cola Music Stage in Puerto Rico. He also won Soberano al Merito awards, which are the highest artistic honors in the Dominican Republic. He even received a nomination for a Latin Grammy for his album "20 años después". Alex Bueno's life story and musical journey were planned to be shared in a documentary with Netflix, showing how important he was to music.

Remembering Alex Bueno

In September 2025, Alex Bueno was diagnosed with a serious illness. His health became worse over the next few months. Alex Bueno passed away in a hospital in New York City on June 18, 2026. He was 62 years old. His family and team shared the sad news with everyone that day.
