Alex Gregory's Early Life and School

Alex Gregory grew up in England. He went to the Richard Pate School in Cheltenham. After that, he attended Bredon Hill Middle School. He also studied at Prince Henry's High School in Evesham. Alex later went to the University of Reading in Berkshire. He finished his studies there in 2006.

Alex Gregory's Rowing Journey

Alex Gregory started his rowing career in 2004. He first represented Great Britain at the World Rowing U23 Championships. This event was held in Poland. He finished 11th in a boat called the "quad." In 2005, he placed 4th in the "double" boat. The next year, he was 8th in the "single" boat.

Joining the Senior Team

After finishing university, Alex became a full member of the men's rowing team. He is also a member of the Leander Club. He even became the Captain of this club.

Olympic Dreams and First Wins

Alex was chosen as a reserve for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He just missed out on qualifying for the men's quad boat. In 2009, he won a race called the GB Rowing Senior Trials. This was his first season in "sweep" rowing. He quickly earned his spot in the new Great Britain "four" boat. They won two gold medals and one bronze in the 2009 World Cup Series. This helped them win the overall title for 2009. Alex was the newest member of the boat. He raced with three experienced Olympians. These teammates had all won medals in Beijing.

World Championship Success

At the 2009 World Rowing Championships, the main rivals for Alex's "four" boat were from Australia. The Australian team had won silver in Beijing. They wanted to beat Great Britain this time. But Great Britain won the gold medal. They finished almost two seconds ahead of Australia. Slovenia came in third place.

In 2011, Alex raced at the 2011 World Rowing Championships in Bled, Slovenia. He was in the men's "four" boat. His teammates were Matt Langridge, Richard Egington, and Tom James. They won a gold medal. Greece finished second, and Australia was third.

Olympic Gold in London 2012

In March 2012, Alex and his teammate Alex Partridge came second in the men's "pair" race. This was at the GB Rowing Team Senior Trials. For the Olympic season, Pete Reed, Tom James, and Andrew Triggs Hodge joined Alex. These three had won gold in the "four" boat in Beijing. This powerful team went on to win the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. They won in the Coxless four event. The race took place at Eton Dorney.

More World Championship Golds

Alex competed at the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju. There, he won another gold medal. This time, he was part of the "eight" boat.
