Alexander "Alex" Asberry (November 2, 1861 - abt. 1903) was an important person in Texas history. He worked as a grocer, owning a food store. He was also a church leader, called a deacon. Most importantly, he was a politician who served one term in the Texas Legislature. This means he helped make laws for the state of Texas.

Who Was Alex Asberry?
Alex Asberry was born in Wilderville, Texas in 1861. His parents were William and Julia Asberry. He went to school at Hearne Academy. After finishing school, he started his own grocery business. He lived in Calvert, Texas.
A Career in Politics
Alex Asberry was a member of the Republican Party. He first tried to become a state representative in 1884 but did not win. In 1888, he was successfully elected to the Texas House of Representatives. He served one term, from January 1889 to January 1891.
National Politics
Besides serving in the Texas Legislature, Alex Asberry also played a role in national politics. He was chosen as a delegate for the Republican National Convention in both 1888 and 1892. A delegate is someone who represents their state's party at a big meeting. At these conventions, the party chooses its candidate for president.
Later Attempts and Community Role
After his term, Alex Asberry ran for the legislature again in 1892, but he was defeated. He tried once more in 1896. This election was very close, and he was narrowly defeated. Outside of politics, he was also a deacon in his church. He passed away around 1903.
