Alexander Drummond of Carnock was a Scottish landowner who lived around the 1500s. He was known for being a friend and ally of the powerful Douglas family. He was involved in a plan to challenge the young King James V of Scotland at Stirling Castle. Alexander Drummond passed away around 1545.

Alexander Drummond's father was Robert Drummond, the third laird of Carnock. His mother was Marion Monteith. Alexander inherited lands like Carnock and Arnmore from his family. One of his ancestors was Elizabeth Airth, who owned parts of the lands of Airth and Plean.

Challenging the King

Alexander Drummond was a friend of Archibald Douglas, 6th Earl of Angus. The Earl of Angus was a very powerful noble in Scotland at that time. Alexander tried to help the Earl of Angus regain influence over King James V.

In July 1528, they planned to surround the king and his mother, Queen Margaret Tudor, at Stirling Castle. This was a serious challenge to the king's authority.

Declared a Traitor

Because he helped the Earl of Angus, Alexander Drummond was declared a traitor by the Parliament of Scotland in September 1528. This meant he had committed a serious crime against the king. As a result, he had to leave Scotland and live in England for a time.

He was accused of helping the Earl of Angus and his brother, George Douglas of Pittendreich. He was said to have shared secret information about the king's forces at Stirling. This information would help the Douglas family decide if they should fight the king's army.
