Alexander Durley (December 18, 1912 – July 18, 1980) was a famous American college football coach. He was also a leader in college sports and a math professor. He coached football teams at three different universities. These included Texas College, Texas Southern University, and Prairie View A&M University. Coaching at Texas College

Leading Texas Southern University
From 1949 to 1964, Durley was the head football coach at Texas Southern University. He was also the director of athletics there. His teams at Texas Southern had a great record of 101 wins, 55 losses, and 8 ties.
In 1952, his Texas Southern team had an amazing undefeated season. They won the black college football national championship. They beat Prairie View A&M in the Prairie View Bowl. In 1958, his team shared the SWAC championship. Besides coaching, he also taught math at Texas Southern.
Time at Prairie View A&M
Later, Durley became the head coach at Prairie View A&M University. He coached there for two seasons, from 1969 to 1970. His record at Prairie View was 8 wins, 10 losses, and 1 tie.
Honors and Legacy
Alexander Durley passed away on July 18, 1980, in Houston, Texas. He was survived by his wife, Wilma, and their two daughters.
In 1992, he was recognized for his great work. He was added to the Southwestern Athletic Conference Hall of Fame. A sports complex at Texas Southern University is named after him. It is called the Alexander Durley Sports Complex. This shows how much he meant to the university.
