Alexander de Forbes, born around 1380, was an important Scottish nobleman. He became the 1st Lord Forbes. He was also known as the feudal baron of Forbes.

Life

Early Life and Family

Alexander was the oldest son of Sir John de Forbes. His father was a sheriff in Aberdeen. Alexander's mother was Margaret. She was the daughter of Sir John Kennedy.

A Brave Soldier

Alexander de Forbes was a brave soldier. He fought in the Battle of Harlaw in 1411. This was an important battle in Scotland. Later, he went to France to help Charles, the future King of France. Alexander helped the French win a big victory. This was against the English at the Battle of Beaugé in 1424.

Soon after, Alexander left the French army. King James I of Scotland asked him to. King James was a prisoner in England at the time. Alexander then visited England several times. He had special permission to travel safely. Each time, he brought about 100 people with him. They went to visit their king.

Becoming a Lord

Alexander de Forbes became a Lord of Parliament after 1436. This meant he was an important member of the Scottish government. The exact date he became a Lord is not known. However, by 1442, he was officially called Lord Forbes.

Family

The first Lord Forbes married Lady Elizabeth. She was the daughter of George Douglas, 1st Earl of Angus. Lady Elizabeth was also a granddaughter of King Robert III of Scotland. Alexander and Elizabeth had two sons and three daughters. His oldest son took over after him:
