Alexander Stewart, 2nd Earl of Buchan facts for kids

Alexander Stewart, 2nd Earl of Buchan (who died in 1505), was a Scottish nobleman. He was the only son of James Stewart, 1st Earl of Buchan, and Margaret Ogilvy. Alexander became the Earl of Buchan and took control of his family's lands, including the Barony of Kingedward, likely in 1499. He officially received the Earldom on January 23, 1500.
On January 21, 1491, his father gave him a special document, called a Charter, for lands like the Barony of Kettins. This document was for Alexander and his first wife, Isobel Ogilvy. Later, on February 6, 1500, he received another Charter for the same lands, this time for himself and his second wife, Margaret Ruthven.

- John Stewart, who was born around 1498. He later became the 3rd Earl of Buchan, taking over from his father.
- Another son, born in early 1501. King James IV himself attended this son's baptism in Perth in February of that year.
- Agnes Stewart.
- Janet Stewart.
His Death

His second wife, Margaret, lived longer than him. She married again three more times after Alexander's death. Her second husband was Sir John Erskine, who died in the Battle of Flodden. She then married James Stewart of Ryland, and finally, William Wood of Bonyton. Margaret died in 1548.
