Early Life and First Steps in Football
Alexander Tettey was born in Accra, Ghana. In 1999, he moved to Bodø Municipality in Norway. Later, he moved to Trondheim Municipality. There, he started playing football for a club called Kolstad.
He then joined the youth team of Rosenborg, a famous Norwegian club. In January 2003, Tettey played his first game for Rosenborg's main team. He was very young, making him one of the youngest players to join Rosenborg's first team squad since 1977.

Playing for Rosenborg
Tettey began his career at Rosenborg as a central midfielder. This means he played in the middle of the field, helping both defense and attack. In 2007, his coach changed his role to a defensive midfielder. This position focuses more on protecting the team's goal.
In 2008, Tettey became the vice-captain of Rosenborg. He often wore the captain's armband when the main captain, Roar Strand, was not playing.
Time in France with Rennes
While at Rosenborg, the French club Rennes was very interested in Tettey. They wanted to build a strong team. On July 31, 2009, he signed a four-year contract with Rennes.
Tettey played his first game for Rennes soon after. However, he got injured in that very first match. His time in France was often affected by injuries. Despite this, he managed to play 60 games for the club. In January 2011, he scored his first goal for Rennes in a cup match. He scored two goals in a big 7–0 win.
Joining Norwich City in England
On August 25, 2012, Tettey joined Premier League club Norwich City. He signed a two-year deal. He scored in his very first game for Norwich, which was a League Cup match against Doncaster Rovers. His goal was the only one in the game, giving Norwich a 1–0 win. He was also named the best player of that match.
A few days later, he played his first league game. He made his first start in a league match against Chelsea. On October 20, he helped Norwich get a surprising 1–0 win against Arsenal. Tettey became a regular player for Norwich. However, he got injured in February 2013 and was out for a while. He returned to play in March.
In the final game of the 2012-2013 season, Norwich beat Manchester City 3–2. This was a big surprise, as Manchester City rarely lost at home. This win helped Norwich finish 11th in the Premier League, their highest finish in many years.
In November 2013, Tettey had ankle surgery and was out for a few months. On March 22, 2014, he scored his first league goal for Norwich. It was an amazing 30-yard volley against Sunderland. Many people called it one of the best goals of the season.
In December 2018, Tettey played his 200th game for Norwich City. In the last game of the 2019–20 season, he played his 100th Premier League game.
On May 4, 2021, Norwich announced that Tettey would leave the club. During his time there, he played 263 games and scored eight goals. In his last season, Tettey also helped coach a London-based organization called BADU Sports, which works with children and young adults.
Back to Rosenborg
After leaving Norwich, Tettey returned to his old club, Rosenborg. He was given the number 6 jersey. This jersey had not been worn since Rosenborg legend Roar Strand retired in 2010, showing how much the club respected Tettey.
International Career
Alexander Tettey is a Norwegian citizen. He played for Norway's youth teams, including the under-18, under-19, and under-21 teams. He also played for the senior national team.
Tettey played his first game for Norway on August 22, 2007. It was a friendly match against Argentina, which Norway won 2–1. Over his nine-year international career, Tettey played 34 games for Norway and scored three goals.
