Early Life and Education
Alexandra Föderl-Schmid was born in Haslach an der Mühl, a town in Upper Austria. She went to the University of Salzburg to study. After her studies, she earned a special degree called a doctorate in Communications Studies, also from the University of Salzburg.
Journalism Career Highlights
Föderl-Schmid started her career in journalism in 1990 at an Austrian newspaper called Der Standard. She worked as a correspondent for the newspaper, reporting from Germany and also from Brussels, where she covered news about the European Union.
From 2007 to 2017, she was the editor-in-chief of Der Standard. This means she was in charge of all the news and content for the newspaper.
In November 2017, Alexandra Föderl-Schmid became a correspondent for the Süddeutsche Zeitung in Israel. She worked there until June 2020. Since July 15, 2020, she has been a Deputy Editor-in-Chief at the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

In early 2024, some claims were made against Alexandra Föderl-Schmid regarding her past work. These claims suggested that some parts of her writing might have been taken from other sources without proper credit.
