Alfonso finished his piano and chamber music studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid. He was very good, winning First Prize at the end of his postgraduate course. In 1982, he won Second Prize at a national piano competition, and then in 1985, he won First Prize at the same competition! He also won First Prize in chamber music competitions in 1991.

From 2013 to 2014, Maribona was the Head Director of the Banda Municipal of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He helped this band become even better, and they even attended a big music event in Chicago in 2014. In 2013, the band received special awards, including the Golden Medal of the City of Las Palmas.
