Alfonso Portugal facts for kids
Alfonso Portugal Díaz (born January 21, 1934 – died June 12, 2016) was a famous Mexican footballer. He was known for playing as a defender. Portugal played for the Mexican national team in the 1958 FIFA World Cup. He was born in Mexico City.
Portugal was a very important player for Club América. He was the captain when they won the Mexican Primera División title in the 1965–66 season. He also played for another team called Club Necaxa. Later in his career, in 1967, he played one match for the Chicago Spurs in the NPSL in the United States.
Alfonso Portugal passed away on June 12, 2016, in Atlixco, Puebla, at the age of 82.
