Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Alfred Creek, once called Glacier Creek, is a small waterway in British Columbia, Canada. It flows from the eastern side of Mount Alfred. The creek then travels southeast into the Skwawka River. This river empties into Jervis Inlet, a long, narrow arm of the sea on the South Coast of British Columbia.

Where Did Alfred Creek Get Its Name?

Alfred Creek gets its name from nearby Mount Alfred. This mountain was named in 1860. It was named after Prince Alfred, who was the second son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Prince Alfred was also known as the Duke of Edinburgh. He was born in 1844 and passed away in 1900.

Discover Alfred Creek Falls

Alfred Creek is also home to a beautiful waterfall called Alfred Creek Falls. This waterfall tumbles down the steep western side of Mount Alfred. It drops about 61 m (200 ft) (200 feet) from top to bottom.

For a long time, people thought the waterfall was much taller. Its estimated height was once thought to be around 700 m (2,300 ft) (2,300 feet). However, in January 2018, scientists used better maps and computer models. They found that the actual height of the waterfall is about 61 m (200 ft).
