Alfred Oftedal Telhaug was an important Norwegian educator. He lived from September 25, 1934, to June 10, 2016. He spent his life studying and improving how schools work.
Early Life and Education
Alfred Telhaug was born in a town called Skudeneshavn. He loved learning from a young age. He finished high school at Stavanger Cathedral School in 1953.
He continued his studies at the University of Oslo. He graduated from there in 1962. Later, he earned a Ph.D. degree in 1990. He received this high degree from the University of Trondheim. A Ph.D. is a very advanced university degree.
Career in Education
Alfred Telhaug worked for many years at a special school for teachers. It was called Norges Lærerhøgskole in Trondheim. This school later became part of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He worked there from 1967 until 2001.
He was a leader at the university. He was in charge of the Institute of Pedagogy three different times. Pedagogy is the study of how to teach and learn. It focuses on teaching methods and how students learn best.
From 1973 to 1981, he also helped edit a journal. This journal was called Norsk Pedagogisk Tidsskrift. It shared new ideas and research about education.
Important Writings
Alfred Telhaug wrote several important books. These books shared his ideas about schools in Norway. His writings helped shape education in the country.
