Judge Scow made history by being the first Indigenous person to graduate from a law school in British Columbia. He was also the first Indigenous lawyer allowed to practice law in BC. Later, he became the first Indigenous judge appointed to the BC Provincial Court.

Who Was Alfred Scow?

Alfred Scow was a member of the Kwakwaka'wakw people. He was also a hereditary chief of the Kwikwasutinuxw nation. A hereditary chief is a leader whose position is passed down through their family for generations.
