Alfredo Urdaci (born on December 22, 1959) is a Spanish journalist. He currently appears on the TV show El gato al agua on Intereconomía Televisión. From 2000 to 2004, he was the Director of News Services for Television España (TVE). Later, from 2014 to 2017, he directed news for TV 13.

Early life and education
Alfredo Urdaci studied Information Science at the University of Navarre. He earned his degree in 1983. He also studied Philosophy and Letters at the Complutense University of Madrid.
Career
Starting as a journalist
After finishing his philosophy degree, Alfredo Urdaci began his career. He worked as a journalist for a newspaper called Diario 16. This newspaper is no longer published.
Reporting from Rome
In 1985, Urdaci became a special reporter in Rome. He worked for Spanish National Radio, sending news back to Spain.
Working at TVE
In August 1998, Alfredo Urdaci joined TVE, a major Spanish TV channel. He became the Deputy News Director. He also started presenting the evening news program, Telediario 2.
In 1999, he hosted the first big event for the Spanish Television Academy. This was a special gala.
In May 2000, he was chosen to be the News Director at TVE. He continued to present Telediario 2 at the same time.
During his time as News Director, there were some disagreements. A large workers' union, Workers' Commissions (CC.OO.), felt that news reports were not fair. They believed the reports favored the government during a big strike in 2002. A judge ordered Urdaci to read a correction on TV. He did so, and the judge was satisfied.
Between October 2003 and April 2004, Urdaci also hosted a debate show called Debate de la 2. He shared this role with another journalist, Luis Herrero. In 2003, he co-hosted the news with Letizia Ortiz. She later became the Queen of Spain. She left the job when her engagement to Prince Felipe was announced.
Changes after a major event
After the terrible terrorist attacks on March 11, 2004, there were many discussions. Following the elections on March 14, Alfredo Urdaci's role at TVE changed. On April 20, he was no longer the host of Telediario 2. Lorenzo Milá took over his position. Urdaci was offered another job at TVE, but he decided not to take it.
After leaving TVE
After leaving TVE, Urdaci worked with other TV networks. For example, he appeared on Flo's Club on laSexta in 2006. In July 2006, he joined the Vocento Group. He hosted a late-night news show called Locos x Madrid on Onda 6.
He also appeared on Telecinco programs. He worked as a talk-show host and a commentator on shows like Espejo público and El programa de Ana Rosa.
Urdaci also worked on radio programs. He advised different media groups. He was the communications director for a law firm. He also wrote articles for a newspaper called Ahora.
Alfredo Urdaci has written several books. One book, Días de ruido y furia (Days of noise and fury), was published in 2005. It was about his time as news director at TVE. There was a disagreement about some details in the book. Urdaci later agreed to correct those parts in future editions.
From 2009 to 2013, he worked as a Press Manager. He worked for a real estate developer named Francisco Hernando.
In October 2013, Urdaci started his own company. It is called Ludiana Bluefields. This company creates TV programs and gives advice on communication. It now has offices in different cities around the world.
In early 2014, he worked on a program called Abre los ojos.
Working at 13TV
From March to July 2014, Urdaci appeared on the show La marimorena on 13 TV.
On July 29, 2014, he became the News Director at 13TV. He also hosted the main news program, Al Día. In April 2017, it was announced that he would host a new show. It was a political humor program called La contra. This show aired from May to July 2017.
Appearances on Telecinco
In 2017 and 2018, he appeared on Sábado Deluxe on Telecinco. In 2017, he was also on Mad in Spain on the same network. His book Manual urgente de comunicación was published in 2018.
Honors and awards
Alfredo Urdaci has received several awards for his work.
- In 1983, he received a special award from the Minister of Education.
- In 1995, his reports from Rome won him the Premio del Club Internacional de Prensa. This was for the Best Foreign Coverage.
- In 2000, the TV Academy gave him an award for Best TV News Program. This was for Telediario 2.
- He also received the Reading Promotion Award from the Association of Editors.
- He won the Golden Antenna award in 2000 and 2016.
- He received the Silver Antenna award in 2006.
Personal life
Alfredo Urdaci is married to María Jesús Vallejo de Blas.
He is very good at speaking several languages. He can speak Italian, English, French, and Arabic.
