Alfredo Urdaci (born December 22, 1959) is a journalist from Spain. He is known for his work in television news. He has worked for several major Spanish TV channels. Currently, he appears on a show called El gato al agua on Intereconomía Televisión.

Early Life and Learning
Alfredo Urdaci studied Information Science at the University of Navarre. He finished this degree in 1983. Later, he also earned a degree in Philosophy and Letters. He got this second degree from the Complutense University of Madrid.
Career in Journalism
Starting Out at Diario 16
After finishing his philosophy degree, Alfredo Urdaci started his career. He worked as a journalist for a newspaper called Diario 16. This newspaper is no longer published today.
Reporting from Rome
In 1985, Urdaci moved to Rome, Italy. He became the correspondent there for Spanish National Radio. This meant he reported news from Rome back to Spain.
Working at TVE
In August 1998, Urdaci joined TVE. This is a major Spanish public television channel. He became the Deputy News Director. He also started presenting the second edition of Telediario, which is a main news program.
In 1999, he hosted the first big event for the Spanish Television Academy.
In May 2000, he was chosen to be the News Director at TVE. He continued to present Telediario 2 at the same time.
While Urdaci was News Director, there were some disagreements. A large workers' union in Spain, called Workers' Commissions (CC.OO.), had concerns. They felt that TVE's news reports were not fair during a big workers' strike in 2002. A judge ordered Urdaci to read a correction on TV. He read it, and the judge was satisfied.
Between 2003 and 2004, Urdaci also hosted a debate show called Debate de la 2. He shared this role with another journalist, Luis Herrero. In 2003, he even co-hosted the news with Letizia Ortiz. She later became the Queen of Spain. She left the job when her engagement to Prince Felipe was announced.
Reporting on a Sad Event
After a very sad event in March 2004, there were disagreements about how the news was reported. Some people felt the reports did not fully explain who was responsible. After a new government took office, Alfredo Urdaci was no longer the host of Telediario 2. Another journalist, Lorenzo Milá, took his place. Urdaci was offered a different job at TVE, but he decided not to take it.
After Leaving TVE
After leaving TVE, Urdaci worked with other TV channels. For example, he appeared on the show Flo's Club in 2006. In July 2006, he joined the Vocento Group. He hosted a late-night news show called Locos x Madrid. He also appeared on Telecinco programs and hosted talk shows. From 2007, he was a commentator on many shows. These included Espejo público and El programa de Ana Rosa.
He also worked on radio shows. He advised different media groups. He was also the communications director for a law firm. He wrote a column for a newspaper called Ahora.
Urdaci has written several books. One book, Días de ruido y furia (Days of noise and fury), was published in 2005. It was about his time as a news director at TVE. There was a small issue with the book. A journalist said he was described incorrectly. Urdaci agreed to fix this in future versions of the book.
From 2009 to 2013, he worked for a real estate developer.
In 2013, Urdaci started his own company. It is called Ludiana Bluefields. This company produces TV shows and gives advice on communication. It now has offices in different cities around the world.
In early 2014, he worked on a program called Abre los ojos.
Working at 13TV
From March to July 2014, Urdaci appeared on the show La marimorena on 13 TV.
In July 2014, he became the News Director at 13TV. He also hosted their main news program, Al Día. In 2017, he started hosting a new show. It was a political humor program called La contra. This show aired from May to July 2017.
More Work at Telecinco
In 2017 and 2018, he appeared on Sábado Deluxe on Telecinco. He also appeared on Mad in Spain in 2017. His book Manual urgente de comunicación was published in 2018.
Awards and Recognitions
Alfredo Urdaci has received many awards for his work.
- In 1983, he received a special award from the Minister of Education.
- In 1995, his reports from Rome won him an award for Best Foreign Coverage.
- In 2000, he won an award from the TV Academy for Best TV News Program. This was for the second edition of Telediario.
- He has also received the Reading Promotion Award.
- He has won the Golden Antenna award twice (in 2000 and 2016).
- He also won the Silver Antenna award in 2006.
Personal Life
Alfredo Urdaci is married to María Jesús Vallejo de Blas.
He is very good at speaking several languages. These include Italian, English, French, and Arabic.
