Algeciras Town Hall facts for kids
The Algeciras Town Hall is an important building in Algeciras, Spain. It's also known as the Casa Consistorial de Algeciras in Spanish. You can find it at 12 Calle Alfonso XI. This building was finished in 1897. Today, it's where the city's government, called the City Council, does a lot of its work. This includes the offices for the Mayor, who is like the city's leader, and other important departments.

How the Town Hall Started
The City Council's Beginnings
The Algeciras City Council is the group of people who help run the city. It was first created in 1755. This happened after a long legal fight for Algeciras to become independent from another town called San Roque.
Building the Current Town Hall
The building you see today was designed by an architect named Amadeo Rodriguez. Construction started on May 14, 1892. Workers finished building it on August 15, 1897.
What the Town Hall Looks Like
Outside the Building
The Algeciras Town Hall looks strong and solid. It has two main parts. You can see the city's special symbol, called a coat of arms, on the outside. The front of the building is made from sandstone. It also has parts made of red brick.
Inside the Building
Inside, the Town Hall has two floors. These floors are built around two open spaces in the middle, called courtyards.
The Plenary Hall
One interesting room is the plenary hall. This is where important meetings happen. It has special decorative tiles. These tiles were made when Emilio Morillas was the Mayor. They use the city's colors. You can also see several yellow and blue mosaics. These mosaics show famous places in Algeciras. There is even a mosaic that remembers the Algeciras Conference from 1906. This was an important meeting about international relations.
Recent Changes
Later in the 1900s, a new part was added to the left side of the building. This new section has a more modern style.
