Algonkian Regional Park is a big park in Sterling, Virginia. It's right next to the Potomac River. This park is huge, covering 838 acres! Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NOVA Parks) owns and runs it. You can find many cool things here. There are open fields and places for picnics. You can even rent small houses called cottages. The park has a special building for events like weddings. There's also a place to launch boats into the Potomac River. If you like water fun, check out Volcano Island water park. It's open from May to September. Golf fans will enjoy the 18-hole golf course. The Potomac Heritage Trail also runs through the park.

Park History

Algonkian Regional Park has an interesting past. NOVA Parks bought the land in 1975. They bought it from a company called the Potomac Electric Power Company (Pepco). The park officially opened in 1976. Before NOVA Parks owned it, Pepco had built an 18-hole golf course there. It was a place for their employees to relax. NOVA Parks decided to keep the golf course. It became a main part of the park. Later, they added vacation cottages in 1983. A special event center was built in 1984. This event center got a big update in 2006.

The Woodlands Event Center

Algonkian Regional Park is home to a special place called The Woodlands. This is a facility used for different events. It's located right next to the park's golf course. The Woodlands was built in 1984. It was also fully updated in 2006.
