Alice Cooper Bailey (born December 9, 1890, died February 1, 1978) was an American author. She wrote many books and articles especially for children. She is most famous for her books Katrina and Jan and Kimo.

Growing Up and Learning

Alice Cooper Bailey was born in San Diego, California, in 1890. When she was a baby, her family moved to Honolulu, Hawaii. She went to several schools and colleges. These included Wellesley College, Oahu College, and the University of Hawaii. She also studied at the Boston Music Conservatory. Alice earned a special diploma from the Honolulu Normal School. This diploma allowed her to teach for her whole life.

Her Writing Career

Alice Cooper Bailey wrote and published seven books during her career. She also worked on other stories that were not published. One was a children's history book about Hawaii, called The Flying Umbrella. Another was a story about her father, who was a judge and a government official.

Besides books, Alice wrote many short stories and articles. These were published in popular magazines for young people. Some of these magazines included American Girl, Child Life, Story Parade, and Travel. She was also a member of the Boston Authors Club, a group for writers.

Her Personal Life

Alice Cooper Bailey married George William Bailey in 1913. They had three children together. Later, she and her husband separated. Alice lived in Weston, Massachusetts. She passed away in Concord, Massachusetts, on February 1, 1978.
