About Alicia Lemke

Alicia Lemke was born in Madison, Wisconsin. Her parents were Bradley and Gale Lemke. She went to several schools in her hometown. Alicia also performed many times in Children's Theatre of Madison shows.

After high school, Alicia went to Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. She studied both biology and musical theater. Eventually, she decided to focus on the arts. She then attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Her Music Journey

Later, Alicia moved to New York. She performed at different clubs around the city. This time helped her find her unique musical style. People in New York and Los Angeles suggested she change her stage name. This was to avoid confusion with the famous singer Alicia Keys.

So, she chose "Alice and the Glass Lake." This name was a tribute to a lake in northern Wisconsin. Her family had a cabin there, and it was a special place for her. On July 9, 2009, Alicia started a YouTube channel. She uploaded videos of her singing cover songs and her own original music.

In 2012, Alicia's voice was featured in a popular video. It was called "Where the Hell is Matt? 2012" by Matt Harding. The video showed Matt and many others dancing in different places around the world. Alicia sang the song "Trip the Light," which was composed by Garry Schyman.

Rising Star

In 2013, Alicia had some big opportunities. She opened concerts for the famous band Fleetwood Mac. That same year, she also performed at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee.

In August 2013, she released her first EP. An EP is like a mini-album. Her music was described as "electronic dream pop." By November, magazines like Live Fast Magazine and Pigeons & People called her a rising star. They said she was an artist to watch.

In December 2013, while on vacation in France, Alicia was diagnosed with a serious illness called leukemia.

Her Legacy and Music After Her Passing

Alicia Lemke passed away on August 9, 2015, from leukemia. She continued to work on her music until almost the very end. Just two days before she died, she was sending notes to her producer about her upcoming album.

Her first full album, Chimaera, was released after her death. It came out on November 18, 2016. The music website CrypticRock gave it a perfect score. They called it one of the top pop rock albums of 2016. They said it was "Full of hope, pain, and angelic vocals." They also said it would "surely secures this talented artist’s legacy."

Kiesza, another musician who was close friends with Alicia, wrote a song in her memory. The song, called "Dearly Beloved," was released on January 6, 2017.

Alicia's vocals also appeared on Eminem's 2017 album, Revival. Her voice was used in the title track, "Revival (Interlude)." These vocals came from an unreleased song she had sent to Eminem in 2012.
