Acting Career
Playing Becky Conner in Roseanne
Lecy Goranson studied acting in Chicago. She got the role of Becky Conner in the TV show Roseanne after only her second audition ever! She played Becky for five seasons.
In 1992, Lecy left the show for a while to go to Vassar College. Her school schedule meant she could only act part-time. Because of this, the show's writers had Becky's character run away with her boyfriend, Mark.
Later, the show's creators wanted Becky to return. Since Lecy was still busy with college, another actress, Sarah Chalke, took over the role. Sarah played Becky for the sixth and seventh seasons.
When the eighth season began, Lecy was able to return to the show. But during that season, her school schedule caused conflicts again. Sarah Chalke stepped in to play Becky for a few episodes, like Darlene's wedding and a family trip to Walt Disney World. Lecy then returned for the end of the eighth season. For the ninth season, Lecy decided not to continue with the show because of her studies, so Sarah Chalke played Becky again.
The show even made jokes about having two different actresses play Becky. When Lecy first returned, other characters would ask, "Where the hell have you been?" When Sarah appeared, Roseanne would joke, "Aren't you glad you're here this week?" There was even a funny scene where both Lecy and Sarah, as Becky, did a parody of the the Patty Duke Show theme song.
After Roseanne
After the original Roseanne show ended, Lecy Goranson took on smaller roles in movies. She also made guest appearances in popular TV shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Sex and the City, Damages, and Fringe. In her movie roles after Roseanne, she is often credited as Alicia Goranson. She played Sandra in the movie The Extra Man in 2010.
Roseanne Revival and The Conners
In 2017, it was announced that Roseanne would return for a new season. Most of the original cast, including Lecy Goranson as Becky, came back. Sarah Chalke also appeared in the revival, but she played a different character. The new season of Roseanne started in March 2018.
Later, a new show called The Conners was created. It continued the story with almost all the original cast members, including Lecy Goranson as Becky. The Conners premiered in October 2018.
Lecy Goranson also wrote an episode for The Conners in its fourth season. The episode was called "Triggered" and focused on the topic of gun violence.
